Farmhouse

In our search for a house here in Charlotte, it was probably about a month ago that we came across this listing:

Charming Craftsman Style home on 1.88 Acres of land. Pecan trees, gental rolling landscape and charm of days gone by. This home needs TLC but has charming presence and potential. House has central air. Owner began bath renovations and has updated some systems and wiring. House part of Estate but can close fast. Bring Offers. REDUCED FOR SALE
Okay, WHAT? Are you kidding me? Let me just tell you the stuff that we were looking for that we thought we would have to compromise on in the end.

Land: Check
Charm of days gone by: Check
Reduced for sale: Check
And who doesn't like pecan trees? Awwwweeesome. The story behind this house is it was built in 1922 and a single old lady schoolteacher lived here and passed away in a nursing home about 6 years ago. The house is on actually 2+ acres of land (it says 1.88) that is part of an estate and family members inherited and have just decided to sell it. So, basically the house is in need of some major TLC as it has not been lived in for a long time. The only thing different now about the pictures below is that all of the stuff in the house is GONE! The owners cleaned it up, so look past all that stuff in the pictures to get the real idea.

Mint green kitchen. Don't think I haven't already signed up for an HGTV kitchen remodel. :)Living room off of the entryway on the right.

Fireplace in living room

Downstairs bathroom

Utility Room. Look through your lenses of potential here folks....

Master Bedroom. Closet on the left.

Another closet in the master bedroom on left. Cool thing is is this closet on the left shares a door that leads into the sitting room. We also think there is a walled up (possibly double-sided) fireplace in between these closets.

Upstairs bedroom. This one, I think, will be Greta's. It's the only upstairs bedroom with a closet.

Loft in between bedrooms

2nd upstairs bedroom. This one will be Will's.

Upstairs bathroom

All of the interior doors have these glass doorknobs

Phone table in hallway. Except for the utility room, the parquet vinyl in the hallway and the lovely vinyl in the kitchen, the whole house has hardwood floors. Even the carpeted areas have hardwoods underneath.

Some of these outside pictures were taken at two different times. Some look more wintery and some springy. This is outbuilding out back. It's pretty dilapidated and unusable right now.

Inside of outbuilding on left.

Adam and I found these yearbooks in there from 1923. The one above is from Meredith Women's college (shoutout to Meghan and Kellie! :) ) and the one below is from Wake Forest University.Back of outbuilding. We think this used to be a horse stable.

Filled well behind the house.

Backyard

One of the giant pecan trees all around the house

Grape arbor

We had a big meeting the other day with a bunch of people including our realtor, contractor, septic guy, plumbing guy and the ac guy. I am so thankful for a smart husband who knows how to handle all of the logistics of this stuff.

Digging up the septic tank to check the integrity and have it pumped. Adam said it best when he said there's 100 year old crap in there. :)

Best picture of them all! We close May 29th!

Oh my goodness, Oh my goodness! I'm giddy for you guys! What an awesome place!! It has SOOO much potential! You'll have to post a ton of before and after pictures. Have you checked out:http://www.thisyounghouse.com? Cute young couple, no kids, took an old house and completely redid it. They did it up so well they decided to host their own wedding at their house... adorable! Now they get design questions from all over the world. Reminds me of you Nat! I can't wait to see how you put your touch on everything!

Oh and the closed up well would make an awesome play house for Greta one day! I'm sure you and Adam have a couple of other more important projects before that though!

That's an awesome house. I'm going to have to follow you closely, cause I'm fascinated to watch you guys pull it all together and make it home. Y'all are awesome Do-It-Yourself-ers!!!! Please keep us posted!

AWESOME! It even comes with a bunny! How did you work that?!

A few thoughts:
1. I LOVE how Will's room is already set to go with pink walls. I'm sure Adam will want to keep them that color.
2. Keep the original doorknobs- no one will be the wiser when you tell them they are real diamonds dug from the mine beneath the house.
3. I'm totally seeing the filled-in well as a transformed playhouse for Greta.

Love it. It is just beautiful and such a "Natalie" home :)
