Long Lost Cousins

While Dad was in town we were able to meet up with a long lost cousin of his, Tim and his wife Alison about 45 minutes away. Tim is 2 years older than my dad and they haven't seen each other since 1963 when Tim was 7 and my dad was 5. They are from Flowery Branch, GA which just so happens to be where Lindsay and Joey live. I have been planning on visiting Linds soon and looks like I'll have some family in town to say hey to at the same time! How crazy is that? We went to Cracker Barrel first for breakfast and stayed there for 2 hours. Afterwards, we went to the outlets next door and stayed there for another 2! Time flew by as everyone was getting acquainted...

Alison, Adam and Will
We had planned this ahead of time to meet at the outlets so Greta could do this the entire time. Play on the playground that is, not balance over the bar. That would take some serious abwork. Well, I suppose with my genes it would be possible, but I hate to brag.

Sweet little boy fell asleep in Alison's arms at CB. I love that little vest on him.

So, if Tim is my dad's cousin, who is he to me? My first cousin? I could google it, but I'm busy blogging. I see the resemblance in their nose and cheekbone area.

Kathleen- That's what I meant! 2nd cousin is what I thought...:) Thanks for the clarification and calling it like you see it.

Signed, Dork

Ramona- Tough! That's the teacher in you...all right all right. You are right though about Geni. It takes forever. I've already tried, but got impatient...And you're probably right about '67 too. I tend to leave out key details sometimes.

I think he's actually your first cousin-once-removed. His kids would be your 2nd cousins.

Your little ones are getting so big! How is Will doing? They are so precious. M watched the Greta video with me and started copying everything G did-- SO cute.

Looks like everyone had a great time. I'm glad that Dad and Tim got reaquainted and that Dad got to meet his wife Allison. Seems funny that even 42 years went by if it was '67. We'll have to exchange addresses and keep in touch and you'll have someone to visit in Georgia Natalie who is family. Love, Mom PS Greta is so hilarious!!

I think the Bennetts are right. He would be your 1st cousin, once removed. Tims' kids would be your second cousins....sorry Kathleen.:)

Yep. They're all right - first cousin once removed. I like to think of it as being on the "same level"of the family tree. It's hard to explain without hand motions.

I don't even know any of you so I probably shouldn't correct you but I'm pretty sure he would be your second cousin. First cousins-once removed are your first cousins' kids! I'm gonna have to go look this up now cuz it's gonna bother me! Haha. :o)

Ok, I looked it up and evidently I've been wrong about this for quite some time (or I just got it confused now)....anyways, everyone is right, he would be your first cousin, once removed. :oP

I had no idea when I made that crack about how we would be related that people would do the research. I even did it and now have the matrix all the way to the eighth cousin hanging on my fridge. You and my daughters are 2nd cousins, we are once removed. Now the question begging to be asked is what does "once removed" mean? We had a ball with you and your family. I still can't believe your dad actually slid down that old laundry shoot some 40+ years ago. What a guy. Stop by when you are in town. We'd love to have you.
