Edgey Art

This weekend we went to an art display, Art on the Edge, downtown with some friends, the Bugnars, Ben S. and D&D and the kids. What a fun night! This thing was awesome. Instead of trying to explain what exactly it is/was, I'll leave you with the description that the newspaper gave.

The highlight is the inflatable building. Levity III, an installation of England's Architects of Air, is a 10,000-square-foot "luminarium" of tunnels and domes that takes up the entire Lichtin Plaza. Tour guides will lead visitors as they walk around the music- and color-filled rooms and tunnels.

The guy who built this hand glued all the seams together of fabric that is less than 1 millimeter thick. It took him 4 months to build it and the whole thing is lit up by outside light filtered through the colored fabric. From the outside, it looked like a cheesy bounce house, but once you stepped inside it was a whole different world. I felt like I belonged in The Bugs Life cartoon movie and was crawling around the inside of a mushroom or something like that....The kids also loved it and had a great time exploring the tunnels and different colored rooms.

Wow! The colors are amazing. What a neat experience. I'm just impressed that my kids are into "installation art."

How cool! One of my co-workers went too and said it was great. She and her husband saw some guys flying on poles or something? I wish we'd known it was going on downtown! How fun!
