This is a before picture of what is under my kitchen window. These two bushes were already there. The ground was EXTRA hard and rooty so Adam rented a tiller from Ace across the street for about the 30 minutes it took. Unfortunately, we had to rent it for 4 hours which was the least amount of time you could keep it. They didn't know our garden was the size of a thumbnail.
It was a beautiful day on Friday so Gret enjoyed crawling all over the front lawn with the keys.
This is the before planting/after tilling pic of the side garden.
Saturday was chilly when we put in the plants so I'm not being overdramatic wearing a winter hat. It rained all weekend which we were so thankful for. We hadn't seen rain in DAYS and I was beginning to doubt our intelligence planting during a drought. It was just what we needed.
So with tender love and care, we got to work planting away!
The azalea bush on the right was existing, but we planted a wax myrtle tree in the corner. The dark soil is actually Starbucks coffee grounds that they give away for this and compost piles.
From the left to right: Carolina Jessamine(a vine with yellow blooms that I hope takes over the fence), Nikko blue hydrangea, silver king euonymus, nikko blue hydrangea. Mom Renstrom said the hydrangea's may not turn out the blue that I hope because it is dependent on the acidity in the soil. It'll be interesting to see what they'll turn out like.
The other azalea bush on the right was existing also, but we planted so big blue liriope in the front and a gardenia is on the far right. I also sprinkled some zinnia and poppy seeds outside and am currently indoor seed planting in a planter some red velvet flowers.
Believe it or not this is the AFTER picture because of the two little guys we planted up front. These plants are called Cameo Quince and I love their peach blossoms.
They look much prettier up close don't you think?

Natalie, they all look great. Now we'll just pray that the spring rain continues.
Nat! You guys did a great job! I wish I had paid more attention on Thursday when we were there.
Your garden looks great! What a fun project. Greta is a doll too. I can't believe how big she is getting!
Great job! I love the extra touch of the Swimming & Tennis sign :-)
I couldn't pronounce half of those plants, I'll call you when I decide to embark into the gardening world
Looks great, guys! Wanna do our yard next :-)
Natalie you look like a true Alaskan planting with your sherpa hat on in springtime. I love the choice of the flowers you chose and also the hydrangea bush. I hope it still has some blooms on it when we get there in November. If not, I guess blogging will have to do. Love, Mom PS I always knew you had a green thumb:)

How fun Nat! I can see it much better in these pics than on Skype.:) I will look so beautiful once everything matures!
Love your garden! It is so pretty. Gardenia's are one of my favorites...they smell sooo good. I have a student who occasionally brought me a few blooms and naturally he was my favorite...Just kidding!
Ryan and I have been doing some gardening, too! And we love the quince as well. We don't have it yet, but hopefully in the fall we will get it planted to enjoy the spring blooms!
