Save a Stamp

Write a soldier.

I told my brother Bernie that I'm going to be sending him a Thanksbirthmas package soon in honor of Thanksgiving, his birthday (12/14) and Christmas. Some of you may remember that he's been deployed to Quatar till April and won't be home for Christmas this year. I thought it would be nice if some of you wanted to write something to him via my comment log. I'll take your comments to him, cut them out and paste them in a Christmas card. You don't have to say much. Just a little encouragement can go a long way. Now, let's say you've never met him. That's okay! I've already thought of that and compiled some suggested sayings below :) :

1. Merry Christmas! Will you be my friend?

2. Thank you for serving our country.

3. I like your hummer. Will you be my friend?

4. Good job George Bernard. I hope you have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
5. Feliz Navidad. Come home soon. I love you...ummmm I mean..will you be my friend?
Thanks to everyone who participates! I know it will make his day. :)

I think I'm going to go with one of Natalie's suggestions here.. ah hem.. Feliz Navidad. Come home soon. I love you.. ummmm I mean.. will you be my friend?

Just kidding [well about the I love you part]. But seriously, thank you for your service. I never know what to say to soldiers. I dont' want to say the same old thing that everyone says but thank you is really the only thing I can ever come up with that sums up how I feel. We are so blessed to have you fighting for our freedom. Have a very happy birthday on the 14th and Merry Christmas on the 25th.

I know we dont' know each other but I am praying for you. Thank you.

Much love,
Lauren Jenkins

Dear Bernie,

I want to express my sincere gratitude to you as you are overseas. I know it can be so difficult being away from the family and friends that you love, but know (evident by all these notes of affection) that we all stand fully behind you and are so incredibly proud of how you and all the other men and women are serving our country.

Take comfort and rest in Christ and place your hope in Him. I hope that you have a very Merry Christmas, Birthday, and New Year! You will be in my prayers and I'll be looking forward to your safe arrival home!

Sincerely,

Meghan Laurin

p.s. I heard about these Camel Spiders that live over there... they sound scary... don't get eaten or anything

Happy Birthday & Merry Christmas Bernie! We appreciate so much your sacrifice to serve & protect our country. We pray for your saftey. In fact, your name is on Kenna's first grade prayer board in her class. They pray for all the soldiers they know and you are one of them! So know that everyday of the week there is a group of 1st graders who pray for you! We look forward to seeing you whenever you are in Boise again and we really look forward to meeting Angie! I hear she's perfect for you! All our love, Jay, Heather, Jax, Kenna, Huddy & Ty Hughes

Hi Bernie,

You don't know us... but, we wanted to wish you a belated happy Thanksgiving. We thought we'd tell you that we are certainly thankful for you and your service to our country. My husband spent Thanksgiving/Christmas 2005 in Kuwait complements of Uncle Sam. So, we know how it is. I tell my students each day when we say our pledges that it's because of our soldiers that we have it so comfy here. So thanks, again!

Now.... We'd like to wish you a happy birthday! Again, it's hard to be away from family and friends at your birthday time...but you have a thoughtful sister who is trying to make it special. We hope it is special for you!

Next we'd like to cover Christmas... um... picture us an odd couple you don't know, randomly singing off-key "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" (the fact that you can't really hear it, is your gift.)

And finally, we'd like to wish you a Happy New Years Day, My Birthday, President's Day, Good Friday, and Easter.

So God-bless! Will you be our friend?

p.s. Don't get into any staring contests with any camels, they will win...they always do. (RIP Goulet).

Hi, Bernie.

You don't know us...actually, Natalie doesn't even really know us either, but we're working on that.

Anyway...(that was an awkward start)...we just wanted to say THANK YOU for all of the sacrifices you are making to serve our country. We hope you have a great birthday and great Christmas. We really appreciate you.

Love,

Keep your head in the game, but don't stop thinking about all of the fun things you'll do when you get home! Every day is one day closer to when you'll be here.

I want to thank you for your sacrifice and for being willing to make a difference.

God Bless!
