The audience gives a standing ovation as former soldier John Ward, left, greets retired Sgt. 1st Class Attis Bennett. Ward and Bennett had not seen each other since Bennett dove into a foxhole on top of Ward during the Korean War. Bennett protected Ward, but was badly wounded. He received a number of medals Saturday as part of an Academy Day event held at Elizabethtown High School. Students were invited to meet with representatives of U.S. military service academies.
Bennett was surprised by Ward’s presence at the ceremony and the two former foxhole buddies embraced before the crowd. The moment brought a few tears to the eyes of some of the family members.
We thank God for our ancestors who have so courageously fought for our freedom and for soldiers like Sgt. Bennett.

Wow, that is really neat!
I love that story. I'm so proud to know Papa Ward and remember the comment he made about Mr. Bennett when he said "He was a prince of a man." That was well spoken. Love, Mom
