For your first Father's Day, I have formulated my thoughts to describe how blessed I am to have you as my daddy. When I've been sleeping I have been thinking hard about what I have wanted to say. And when I cry, all I've been doing is just practicing my speech. You are my favorite dad in the whole wide world and I wouldn't have it any other way. From the minute I was born, you looked at me for the first time. I heard your deep voice and it made me feel secure in this big new world. It was the same deep voice that I heard when you sang to me and told me funny jokes when I was still in mom's tummy.
When you held me for the first time I felt so snug and warm. I knew I was safe in your arms.
I love it when you kiss me. Even with your hairy beard, I still love it when you kiss me on my face. Even with my eyes closed, your whiskers are a tell-tale sign it's just my daddy loving on me.
You're so nice and gentle when you change my diaper. Not a lot of other dads even bother to deal with that, but you are the helper of the helpless. You take such good care of me.
Although my face tells a different story, I can sometimes be a little dramatic. I really do think you are a good swaddler. You've mastered just the perfect way to keep my little arms and hands down where they need to be instead of them waking me up in the middle of the night.
You're so good at rocking me to sleep after I've eaten. It takes a real man to where a boppy, but as long as you've got me in your arms you don't care what anyone thinks.
I know the carseat situation was a little crazy, but all the time, effort and studying you put into picking out just the right one to fit in mommy's car was well worth it. I love it when you take me for rides in your truck. You are the best daddy to me and the best helper to mom. You are showing me what to look for in a guy when I get to be 43 (according to you). Mom and I love you so so much and I hope you have the happiest father's day in the world.
Love,
your Greta girl
(as told to her mom. Her finger dexterity is still developing.)
