Baby Story

Seeing the timeline above of when Greta's arrival was to be expected, it amazes us to see what has transposed in the past 5 days. Here is the play by play of what happened beginning on Sunday afternoon.

June 10th

Sunday afternoon-evening: Mild contractions, a lot of pressure and only comfortable when lying down. Called the dr. once in the afternoon and told him but neither of us were too concerned thinking that these were not actual labor pains and probably would go away eventually. I was feeling the pain in the front of the belly and remembered learning in our childbirth classes that those were signs of Braxton Hicks while "real" labor contractions would be felt in the back. I now know that this is not true.
Sunday evening (11:00ish): Contractions not going away and having more. Both Adam and I are exhausted and hoping to get some rest. Adam sleeps like a baby while Nat has more contractions. :) I start timing them, but since I'm so tired I forget the time taken before every contraction so I'm not really sure how far apart they are except that they seem to be about every 4-7 minutes apart. I call my dr. and he says to let him know when we go to the hospital so he will call ahead and have them expect us.

12:30: Wake up Adam. :) Time to go!

Here I am holding up a 1 for: 1st child and 1 in the morning.

1:00 am: We get to the hospital to find all the labor and delivery rooms are filled to the gills. They put me in a triage room with a bunch of other ladies who are also waiting for a room. We are separated by curtains and it is a pretty uncomfortable atmosphere. The nurse checks me and I am already 5 cm. dilated. She says, "Good job!" and then I ask when will I get my epidural. FINALLY, after the longest 1 hour+ I get a room and then my epidural 30 min. later. The dr. comes in and checks me again and I am up to 8 cm. dilated. The epidural is working like a dream and we all take a quick cat nap (including the dr.) :) to wait till I am 10 cm. dilated.
Epidural is working!

4:30 am: Mom Renstrom and LeighAnna arrive and we are so excited to see them.

4:45 am: Nurse comes in and checks dilation. 10 centimeters! She calls the dr. in and I start pushing.

5:06 am: Greta Jean Renstrom arrives!
