My Favorite Time of Year

These are pictures from the Joy Prom that we had at our church this past Friday. They're not my pictures, but a compilation of some friends and co-workers of mine who works here at Providence. I know, already, a bunch of blogs have been circulating some great pictures from that night, I just thought I would share with our families back home since they seem to be just as excited for it every year. Annually, our church will host a prom for teens and adults with special needs. The reason our church does this is found in Luke 14:12-14.
He [Jesus] said also to the man who had invited him, "When you give a dinner or a banquet, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, lest they also invite you in return and you be repaid. But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. You will be repaid at the resurrection of the just."

The theme was "Under the Sea". This is the area where the attendants get dropped off and they get to walk down the red carpet to get inside.

Katie(r) is the woMAN with the plan behind all of this. She thought of it some years ago, inspired by her special needs sister Ingram(l).

This guy was awesome. He was our announcer for the night and would make everyone feel like a million bucks by saying sweet things like, "This is the one we've been waiting for all night!" as the attendees walked down the red carpet. Some he would interview and ask them if they were ready to do some dancing!

This guy was ready and even previewed some of his moves! It was great. :)One of my favorite quotes was from this gentleman who said during his mini-interview, "My name is so and so and I'm here to make a big impression!"It was neat to see the love on the volunteers faces. Over 500 people signed up to help. This is one of our sweet youth pastor's, Steve. This is Willy, an old buddy of mind. One of my first weeks working here at Providence, I met Willy when he came to reception and sang me "Butterfly Kisses." :) A friend of ours, Marty dancing with a friend. I thought this was a sweet picture.
Everyone who wanted attended got a corsage complete with a shoe shine for the guys and hair and makeup for the girls.

I could hardly read or look at the pictures for the tears in my eyes. Such a blessing to see a church come together to give to those who are often overlooked.
